PE and Sports Grant funding
At St. Paul’s we recognise how much physical activity and participation in sports can have a positive impact on children’s mental health, as well as help them develop resilience and build communication skills. Our PE and outdoor learning curriculum plays an integral role in supporting our students to become well-rounded individuals.
We believe that a varied PE curriculum and extracurricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children. We are committed to providing children with a strong program of sporting activities and our Primary School Sport Funding enables us to continue to extend our provision for all our pupils, ensuring that each child will experience the benefits.
We encourage friendly competition through competitive sports, but we also aim to make our curriculum inclusive by ensuring a wide range of non-competitive sports and activities are available, so that we meet the needs and interests of every child.
What is the Sports Premium?
The PE and sport premium is a government initiative providing funding to primary schools in England to improve the quality of Physical Education (PE), physical activity, and sport, ensuring all pupils have access to high-quality opportunities. Through this, the school ensure all children benefit from the funding regardless of their sporting ability and that they aspire to, and reach, a higher standard of physical performance.
Purpose of the Funding
Schools are required to spend the sports funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, and have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Our Current Priorities for the Funding
- Teachers working alongside qualified coaches and specialist PE teachers, to provide enhanced quality PE lessons, sports and outside activities across the school.
- Opportunities for all children to join in planned physical activities through the provision of active lunch breaks.
- Provide teachers with a quality PE scheme that includes planning that is sequential and progressive with rigorous assessment of children’s skills.
- Provide pupils with the opportunity to try new activities and experiences, including kayaking, abseiling, rock climbing and archery.
- The provision of after-school activities.
- Reviewing the quality of teaching & learning and to consider the best ways of allocating CPD from PE specialists.
- Review of PE equipment to support high-quality delivery of the curriculum.
