Y5MG

Jesus said "I have come in order that you may have life - life in all its fullness." John 10:10

WELCOME TO AUTUMN 1 IN YEAR 5MG 2025-2026!!

A very warm welcome to the new academic year! I am so pleased to be the children's teacher (many of whom again from back in Year 2!) and I know we will have a successful year ahead.

Please keep checking this page for lots of useful information about the children's learning throughout the year - we will be doing lots!

I would like to remind how important it is that the children keep practising their reading at home daily and their times tables - even 5 minutes of both each night will really help in all of their learning we do at school.

If you have any questions about the year ahead or want to speak to me about anything, I am always available first thing in the morning, by email or phone and at hometime.

Mr Griffiths

The brilliant Year 5MG team are:

Class Teacher - Mr Griffiths (Monday - Friday)

email: matthew.griffiths@st-pauls.stockport.sch.uk

Teaching Assistant - Mrs Clarke

PPA Cover -  Miss Cocks (Wednesday afternoon)

Gym Coach - Mr Stevenson

Christian Value

Our focus for this half term is FRIENDSHIP. We will be adding to our Values tab how we are exploring how that looks in our school and how we can live it out in our lives, as Jesus taught us to.

Religious Education

Our RE enriches all of our learning. This half term, we are looking at the question...

'Why do some people believe in God?'

Daily Timetable

Start of school is at 8.50 am

End of school is at 3.20 pm

Playtime is at 10.45 am and lunch is at 12.40

Things to remember in Year 5

*Each child needs to bring their Reading Book Bag or small rucksack into school each day.

*School planners and reading books will be needed in school everyday.

*Each child will choose a library book which can be changed weekly.

* Each child should have their own water bottle in school that they can use in the classroom.

* School uniform and appropriate footwear will be worn every day.

* PE kits will be needed for the children to change into on the days they do PE - this is on a TUESDAY with Mr Stevenson and on THURSDAY with myself.

* Toast (Tuck) can be purchased online and is £10 a term, or £1 per week.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me either on the door in the morning/hometime or anytime by email.

Reading:

Children will have their own reading books to take home. We look forward to seeing their progress and enthusiasm for reading.

We will be reading a class book each half term - some will be linked to our topic, others simply because they are awesome stories and great examples for us to magpie from in our own writing!

We have a well resourced school library where the children are allowed to select a book and there is also a reading corner in the classroom which we will encourage the children to use regularly to really build that love of reading.

Writing:

Our main text for Autumn 1 is the amazing:

Queen of the Falls

Maths:

Here is a link to show you the Year 5 Overview of our Maths this academic year:

It is so important that the children keep learning and practising their Times Tables - it will unlock so much of their learning in Maths for this year and all subsequent years.

The children still have access to TT Rockstars that can be used and I would also recommend the following website which is free to use and works on both tablets and smart phones:

Hit the Button - Quick fire maths practise for 6-11 year olds

Alongside all our fantastic daily work in Reading, Writing and Maths and weekly R.E., Music, Computing, PSHE and Science, Year 5 are also going to be learning about the following:
