NUMERACY
Week 2: Friday 22nd January
Final day this week Year 5 and I'm sure you have all done so well with multiplying 2,3 and 4 digit numbers by 1 digit and 2 digit numbers!
Just to finish off the week I am setting you a range of multiplications in the Activity sheet below - as you will see you can solve these using the Grid Method but if you prefer the Expanded Column Method then by all means use that to solve the multiplications.

Week 2: Friday 22nd January
I'm setting you a couple of challenges today Year 5 linked to our Main Text all about Cave Elves!
The first challenge is to come up with a Menu that you think Cave Elves might enjoy - perhaps they have odd and unusual combinations!
The second is to think about what might be in a Cave Elf's Rucksack - I've given you some example ideas so have fun with it :)

As a final challenge this week Year 5 for our topic check out the Teaching Powerpoint below that explores the 7 Kingdoms that the Anglo-Saxons created when they settled in England.
Once you've checked that out then I'd like you to draw a map of England that shows the 7 kingdoms and their names.

Another project you could complete this week is to design an Anglo-Saxon shield. In class we are making our own shields so if you are able to why not try make your own or draw/paint one on a piece of paper!

Week 2: Wednesday 20th January
We are going to return to our text from Monday about those strange and wonderful Elves!
Re-read the Main text and then it's time for you to draw your own Elf and toddler (baby elf) and then label it with information similar to the facts/information given in the text.
For example in the Main text baby elves have yellowish skin and red hair...maybe yours will have purpleish skin and pink hair!
Make sure you label/describe some of the features you have drawn either inside the frame itself if there is space or on a separate piece of paper! I look forward to seeing lots of interesting and unusual Elves!
NUMERACY
Week 2: Tuesday 19th January
Today we are going to explore 3 digit by 2 digit multiplication - please check out the Teaching Powerpoint below before trying the Activity questions.
If, however, you are struggling with the 2 digit x 2 digit from yesterday Year 5 then I would ask you to go over yesterday's work again and try using either the Grid Method or Expanded Column Method - whichever you feel most comfortable with.

Week 2: Monday 18th January
This week we are going to start looking at a brilliant text by Pie Corbett called "The Ultimate Guide to Elves and Sprites"
Whilst this uses the features of a Non-Fiction Text that we have previously looked at Year 5, this does count as Fiction writing as it is about made-up creatures!
First read the Main Text that I have provided below and keep this handy as we will be referring to it over the next couple of weeks.
Then try Activity Number 1 which gets us thinking about the vocabulary used in the text and making sure we understand the meaning of words and phrases.
