LITERACY

Week 3: Friday 29th January

Today's Literacy is a Reading Comprehension - read through the text about Marcus Rashford and then try to answer the questions.

Remember to keep referring back to the text to find your answer and use the wording of the question to help you locate where the answer might be in the text.

SPELLINGS Week 3

Here are the spellings for you to keep practicing throughout the week and if you can get someone to test you on them at the end of the week.

Today I would like you to practice them by:

  • Finding and writing the definitions
  • Use the words within a sentence (it can be silly)

membership                 ownership

partnership                  dictatorship

championship               craftsmanship

fellowship                     apprenticeship

citizenship                     sponsorship

NUMERACY

Week 3: Thursday 28th January

Today we are going to continue lookuse the Bus Stop method for division but with 4 digit numbers!

The method is exactly the same as yesterday when we divided 3 digit numbers...the only difference is that we have a 4 digit number instead so we start with the Thousands rather than the hundreds :)

Check out the Teaching Powerpoint and then try the Activity below.

Week 4: Thursday 28th January

Today I'd like you to focus on Editing your work like all good writers do!

Check out the Activity sheet below.

NUMERACY

Week 3: Wednesday 27th January

Great work yesterday Year 5 on 3 digit divided by 1 digit using the part part whole method.

Today I'd like you to try using the Bus Stop method - check out the Teaching Powerpoint before trying the questions on the Activity below.

For the first time ever Year 5 we are going to break the normal rules that we have used for adding, subtracting and multiplying...for the Bus Stop method you must start with the highest number first and then move along until you finish with the ones!

This is the only time we will do this Year 5 so please lock in that this is ONLY for doing written division using the Bus Stop method.

LITERACY

Week 3: Wednesday 27th January

Using your plan from yesterday Year 5, today I'd like you to write up your fictional report about the Cave Elf or Forest Sprite that you have chosen.

Make sure that you are using full sentences and great sentence openers to make your 5 paragraphs interesting to read!

Keep referring to the Model Text that we have been using to give you ideas on how to start your sentences.

Try to keep to the structure in your plan but if you do want to add any other paragraphs in that you feel are relevant then please feel free to! :)

There is no attachment to today's activity as you can either type up your story if you are able to or use a piece of lined paper if you have one at home.

TOPIC

Week 3: Wednesday 27th January

I hope you are enjoying your study of the Anglo-Saxons as much as we are in school - today we are going to look at another aspect of the Anglo-Saxons and that is Village Life!

Check out the Teaching Powerpoint then your activity is detailed on the final slide - your challenge is to design/make an Anglo-Saxon village.

Think about what the buildings looked like, were made of and used for then design your own village.

Will there be any defences? Will there be any communal buildings?

You can draw your village or use a computer programme even!

NUMERACY

Week 3: Tuesday 26th January

Today we are moving on to 3 digit divided by 1 digit calculations and building on on learning yesterday on how we can use the part part whole method to help us solve division questions.

Remember all of the work we are doing this week is linked to our Times Table knowledge - if you know that 4 x 3 = 12 then you know that 12 divided by 3 equals 4! Use your excellent Multiplication knowledge to help you with your division and be confident :)

Check out the Teaching Powerpoint or Video, which goes through the Powerpoint with a teacher (not my voice!) commentating the slides, before trying the Activity.

LITERACY

Week 3: Tuesday 26th January

Today let's look at the structure of our Main Text about Cave Elves to see how it is organised so that we can start to plan out some ideas for our own version.

As you will see on the Activity sheet I have "boxed up" the text into the 5 paragraphs and so once you have read through this it is time for you to start planning your own paragraphs.

REMEMBER this is just the plan - you do not need to write out full sentences in the boxes but instead just put in some of your ideas about your own cave elf or forest sprite for each of the sections.

Check out the Teaching Powerpoint then try the Reading Comprehension Activity.

NUMERACY

Week 3: Monday 25th January

This week Year 5 we are moving on to Division - it is so important that you are confident and able not just to multiply but also divide.

We will be looking this week at various written methods to help us with our division but remember that this all links back to our understanding of Times Tables and applying it to division.

Check out the Teaching Powerpoint below and then try the Activity sheets!

Week 3: Monday 25th January

This week we will be writing our own version of the Main Text from last week about Cave Elves.

To help us with this, check out the Activity below which we will look to find and Magpie (use) great vocabulary from the Main Text.

You will see that I have also included another example text about Sprites which you may also want to read through and find any really good vocabulary or phrases that you may use in your own version later on this week.
