Coronavirus - A Book for Children

Please click on the link to share an excellent book with your family.  The book will help you to answer a lot of the questions you may have about the Coronavirus and why it is affecting our lives so much at the moment.

A lovely well-being document, 'The Little Book of Coping' that you might find useful, for you and your family.

Monday 13th July 2020

This week we are reading the story of 'Katie Morag Delivers the Mail'.  She is a little girl, who has wonderful adventures on the Isle of Struay with her family and beloved Granny.

I hope you enjoy listening to story and talking about the lovely illustrations in the book with an adult at home.

As always, there are  activities for you to complete.

You can write a postcard to a friend or to Katie Morag.

Can you find Granny's house on the map of the Isle of Struay?

Who are Katie Morag's neighbours?

How do the people of Struay travel on and off the island?

Draw a map of your local area and label it.

Research the Scottish Isles with an adult.

Locate Scotland on the map of the United Kingdom.

Happy Reading and keep working hard at home.

Keep practising the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and you can log onto Times Tables Rockstars to work on these facts too.

Home Learning

Monday 6th June 2020

We are remaining with our 'seaside' theme in class and have read 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'.  It is a super book with lots of exciting vocabulary to read and discuss the meaning of the words.

You can design and make your very own sandwich for the Lighthouse Keeper to eat.  Think about the ingredients you want to use.  Will it be white or brown bread?  Does the Lighthouse Keeper like tomatoes in his sandwiches?  Remember to draw and label your sandwich and if you can, please send it to me.

Click here to listen to the story of The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch and then enjoy the activities.

Mrs Bramley - Class Teacher

Mrs Grainger - Class Teacher

Mrs Clarke - Teaching Assistant

Mr Stevenson - PE Coach

Welcome to Year 2 GB's class web page.

Here's a little bit of information about the timetable:

We learn Literacy every day and this includes handwriting, reading, spelling, speaking and listening and writing.

We learn Maths every day and you will soon see an overview of the topics for the year.

This half term PE will be on Wednesdays (golf lessons) and Fridays with Mr Stevenson. Please keep PE kits in school all week. We will send them home at the end of each term to be washed.

Our topic this term will be called 'Survival of the Fittest' and we will be learning all about keeping healthy, eating healthily, growing plants and food chains.

Things to remember every week:

Water bottles should come to school every day and go home to be cleaned each day. Please only send water.

Toast can be ordered from the school office for 20p each day. It is possible to pay for the whole week, or even half term.

Reading books should be brought to school every day and taken home every night.

Parents and carers can write messages in the reading planners and should sign when their child has read or completed a book.

We do sometimes play out when it is raining so waterproof coats are helpful in the autumn and winter.

Ms Grainger teaches the class every Thursday and works closely with Mrs Bramley to plan work for the children.

We love to read!

Children enjoy guided reading sessions where they can develop their reading and comprehension skills.

Some children choose their own reading books to take home.

We have a well resourced school library where the children are allowed to select a book and take it home.

There is also a cosy reading corner and library in the classroom.
