World Book Day in Year 2!
We had a great day celebrating World Book Day in school. Although a little later than usual in the year, it was still a good day to celebrate our love of reading and remind ourselves just how fantastic books can be.
Can you spot your favourite book character in the picture?
We are all working really hard and enjoying our new topic 'Climate Classmates'.
We are learning all about protecting our planet and finding out about pollution. We are learning about recycling. Please could you send in any plastic milk cartons? We’re going to turn them into something magical!!
Please take a look at the knowledge organiser below to find out what we will be learning.

Spring Term 2021
Hi Year Two!
This week is a little different for us all in Year 2 as everyone will be learning at home, including me! That means that if you have been in class, but are now at home there is a home learning pack waiting for you to pick up from school on Monday. This means we can all continue to learn, whilst we are apart.
You have all worked so hard whether you have been in school or learning from home. Your messages and completed work are amazing and the photographs that are sent in from home make everyone smile in class and when using our class page. THANK YOU!
So in Week 5, we will be writing a letter home in the style of Sunny the Meerkat, working on Tally Charts and Pictograms in Maths and investigating Food Chains in Science. We have an Art and Computing Competition to keep us busy too. As always, your work is set out below for each subject and please keep sending completed work to me by email if you are working remotely. Home learning packs can be picked up from school on a Monday and returned on a Friday for marking.
I hope you chose some of the activities from the Children's Mental Health Week work and the assembly will remain on our web page together with all of our past learning.
This week there is a lovely story about Captain Sir Tom Moore who raised lots of money for the NHS this year. He sadly passed away this week, but the story of '100 Steps' tells his life story. I hope that you enjoy it.
I have also recorded a story for us all to share even though we can't be together at the moment. It is one of my favourite books and I hope that you enjoy it with your family whilst being at home.
Keep working hard and looking after each other at home.
Stay safe and well.
Mrs Bramley
Please send your fantastic work to gillian.bramley@st-pauls.stockport.sch.uk
Safer Internet Day - Tuesday 9th February 2021
From cyber bullying to social networking to digital identity, each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.
This year, we are holding a COMPETITION to celebrate this important date in the school calendar. Please create an internet safety poster and send it to me by email. The winning entry will be announced on 12th February. The poster competition is open to all year groups.
Here are some internet safety links for you to read and watch. Please talk about them with your family and then decide the contents of your poster and it's design. Good luck Year 2!
PSHE Learning with the Oak Academy
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education allows pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. These skills and attributes help pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.
In class we enjoy Circle Times to share our ideas and thoughts with our class friends, role play scenarios and our class books to record our work. Whilst we are learning at home, the Oak Academy video lessons are a great way to keep us up to date with our PSHE learning and share it with our families.
Spring Term 2021
This term we plan to find out the answer to
'Why Wouldn't a Meerkat live at the South Pole?'
We will read the book, 'Meerkat Mail', by Emily Gravett in class
and use it as a stimilus for our writing and topic work.
Our new key learning can be found in the
Spring Term Knowledge Organiser.
Whole School Value
This term our whole school value is Honesty. Each week we will post an activity for you to complete.

Art
We have an exciting project for you all to take part in for Art over the next few weeks! As we are all spending more time at home, we thought it would be nice for you to look out of your windows and create a picture of what you can see (or what you would like to see!)
All details can be found in the document below - we can't wait to see the pictures that you create!
Science
Can you remember our learning in Year 1? We looked at carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
Can you remember what they eat?
This week we are going to look at food chains. We would like you to watch the Powerpoint below.
We would like you to print out or draw the pictures from the worksheet and make as many food chains as you can eg grass-rabbit-fox.
Wellbeing
We have chosen some activities this week that we hope relax you and make you feel happy. Enjoy!
Science
We would like you to look at different sources of food for animals.
Can you match up what we get from different animals eg dairy cow-milk.
Can you cut out the pictures and draw beside the animals what we get from them eg pig-bacon.
Art
Your task for art this week is to create a 3D model of a Meerkat.
Cut out the template below, then fold and glue as directed. Enjoy!
Wellbeing
We hope that you are all feeling ok still.
Here are some more ideas of activities for you to enjoy and make you feel happy.
Science
A habitat must provide everything that a living thing (organism) needs to survive. Some habitats need to be hot and some habitats need to be cold. A camel couldn't survive in the cold and a polar bear couldn't survive in the heat.
Below there is an activity. We would like you to match the animals to their habitat. Can you write some sentences to say what the habitat provides.
There are some links below of different habitats for you to look at.
TOPIC WORK
Kalahari Fact File
This week we are making a fact file all about the amazing Kalahari Desert. Please use the links to read lots of interesting facts about the Kalahari. You can cut some of the facts out and stick them in your fact file with the pictures, or you can copy some of the facts in your neatest handwriting. You can even research some of your own facts and include these too. Have fun making your Kalahari Fact File!
'Pack a Suitcase' task
Think about what you would pack for a trip and why you would choose to take those items.
Then draw them in the suitcase with careful colouring and write down each item in the box with a reason why you have chosen it. Have fun and happy packing!
Art
Please see below your Art task for this week.
Wellbeing
We have found some more lovely activities to make you feel happy this week. Enjoy!
Science
What is a Habitat?
We are learning about Living Things and their Habitats this term. Please use the internet to search for your favourite animal and found out facts about their habitat. Use bullet points to write them down and draw a picture.
Think about Sunny the Meerkat and the habitat he and his family need to survive. Would he survive in the South Pole?
Click on the links for tasks to explore your learning about other living things and their habitats. Have fun!
Topic
This week we are going to identify a hot and cold place in the World.
I would like you to make a short fact file about Africa and a fact file about the South Pole. Think about the following things when researching your facts:
Topic Book Front Cover
Can you create a 'front cover' for your Topic Book? Use the link to cut out pictures to stick onto a page. You can draw pictures too. You can write a postcard to Sunny the Meerkat and include that. Be as creative as you wish, but don't forget to put your name on your page!
Art
Your task this week is to use the template from last weeks drawing activity to paint a picture of a Meerkat.
Please send us photographs of them - we'd love to see them!
Wellbeing
We have attached two activities below for you to complete to make you feel happy. We hope you enjoy these activities.
Remember to send us photographs!
Yoga
This week we would like you to practise some animal poses. Use the pictures below to help you get into position. Can you create a sequence? Remember to begin by sitting in easy pose and saying our yoga word 'Namaste'.
Reading with Oxford Owl
A free reading resource for families to enjoy at home.
Click on the link, log on and a world of books will be yours to enjoy!
Reading with my child at home
Parents and carers play a very important part in helping their child learn to read. In school, the children enjoy daily phonic lessons to learn letters and sounds. Here are some useful links to use at home with your child.
Topic - 'Why wouldn't a Meerkat live at the South Pole?'
This term we will be learning about Sunny the Meerkat who goes on a very interesting journey that takes him to a lot of different parts of the World. To begin our exciting topic can you please complete the following at home:-
Yoga
Below you will find a document with all the yoga positions we have practised in school.
Can you put them together in a sequence?
How can you change it?
There is a youtube link with some relaxing music for you to do it to.
Remember to sit in easy pose, hands together at your heart and say our greeting 'Namaste'.
Art
Your task this week is to complete a guided drawing of a Meerkat.
Please use the document below and follow the step by step instructions.

Reading in Year 2
At St Paul's we love reading! Our goal is to instil a life-long love for reading and we want our children to take pleasure in all that reading can bring. Reading at St Paul's is designed to develop and enable ALL children to reach their full potential. We aim for our children to leave school as confident and fluent readers.
We introduce children to a variety of literature through structured guided reading lessons, storytime, links with the local library, celebrating world book day and books are used as a stimulus for learning in other areas of the curriculum.
We know how important it is to hear children read. Our reading sessions are designed so that each child can read and discuss a book with the teacher and class teaching assistant. Children will also have opportunities to read with a reading volunteer where possible.
We value the contributions parents and carers make to the teaching of reading. Each child has a reading record which parents/carers and teachers complete. This record is a means of communicating about your child’s reading.
