Year 6LM

Jesus said, "I have come in order that you may have life - life in all its fullness."

John 10:10

Happy New Year everyone!

This term, we have lots of exciting activities planned. We are reading a fantastic Michael Morpurgo book, which will lead into out writing activities. We are exploring electricity and extreme weather in our topic work and we will be swimming this half term.

Let's get going!

Christian Value

Our Christian Value for this half term is THANKFULNESS. Have a look on our Values tab to see how we have been exploring how that looks in our school and how we can live it out in our lives, as Jesus taught us to.

The Thankful Leper (Luke 17: 11-19)

This story is about the 10 men who were healed of leprosy and the one who came back to say thank you.

Religious Education

Our RE enriches all of our learning. This half term, we are looking at the question...

Is it better to express beliefs in art or charity?

We will be exploring expression through Christian art and charity work and we will be seeing how other religions approach this question too.

We have responded to the RE question by creating watercolour art, reflecting on Bible verses.

* School uniform will be worn every day from September.

* PE kits will be needed for the children to change into on the days they will do PE - Mondays and Thursdays.

* Toast or an apple can be purchased online and is £10 a term

* Spelling work will begin in the classroom on a Monday and needs to be completed and returned on a Friday.

* A themed homework grid will be provided at the beginning of each half term and any completed work should

be returned on a Friday.

Homework in the Spring term

Homework will be set every week.

The children will be expected to complete their reading, weekly spellings and time table activities.

This will support their progress throughout the year in Literacy and Numeracy.

In addition to this, children will have homework which will be linked to each termly Learning Challenge.

The children will be able to earn more points for each activity they complete, working towards a target amount and

earning a prize when the amount is successfully reached.

We love to read.....

Children will have their own reading books to take home. We look forward to seeing your progress on our Reading Rocks chart.

Children in Year 6 enjoy Cracking Comprehension sessions where you can develop your reading and comprehension skills.

We will be reading a class book - This term, we are reading a fiction novel linked to our Topic on WWII!

We have a well resourced school library where the children are allowed to select a book.

There is also a reading corner in the classroom.

Our class reading book

Our class reading book is the fabulous Kenzuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. It tells the story of a boy named Michael, whose family decide to sail around the world after his parents are made redundant from the local brickworks.

Our Year 6 topic

Our topic for this term has a science and geography focus. It looks at electricity and how it appears in nature. Have a look at our knowledge organiser to see what we will be covering.

Our new topic is Electric Storm

Numeracy

In numeracy we are focusing on fractions, decimals and percentages.
