Year 3PE

Welcome to Year 3PE/KM!

Thank you for visiting our class page. We can't believe we are so far into our Summer term! Since returning from half term, we have been busy studying our Romans topic! We have been learning all about the Roman's enemy, the Celts!

In Maths, we have been learning about properties of 2d and 3d shape. We have learnt lots of new terms like 'acute', 'obtuse', 'reflex', 'faces', and 'vertices'.

As we come to the end of this academic year, we will be thinking lots about Year 4. In a few weeks time, next year's class pages will be posted on our website where you will be able to find out lots more about your new class teacher.

Please get in touch if you would like to speak to us about anything at all!

The members of staff who work with the class are:

Mr Eames (Teaches the class on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.)

Tuck

If your child would like tuck at break time it is 20p per day or you can pay £1 for the week. This can either be paid to the child's class teacher or through the school online payment. Please enquire at the office if you have not already heard of this.

Reading books

Each child is given a home reading book. Please try and read with them as much as possible and once you have finished their book send it back into school so it can be changed as quickly as possible. We try to hear as many people read as possible throughout the week, so please send your child's reading book into school each day with them so that they can read it in school.

TOPIC

Our topic for the Summer Term is the Romans. During this block of learning, we will be exploring why the Roman Empire was so successful, what it was like to be a Roman Soldier and train in the Roman army. We will also explore what it was like to live in Rome and in other parts of the empire.

We will be doing lots of fun things; making Roman shields, practising marching and trying to recreate Roman shield formations. We all seem to really be enjoying this study so far.

Below is our Knowledge Organiser for this topic, which outlines all the key information and objectives related to this unit of study.

Maths

Our focus for the summer term in Maths is 'Time', 'Properties of Shape' and 'Mass and Capacity'. We follow the White Rose Maths scheme of learning, which supports teachers to provide children with challenging and engaging learning activities.

If you would like to look more closely at the White Rose Maths curriculum, please follow the link below.

English

In Literacy, we follow the 'Talk 4 Writing' scheme. Talk for Writing is an engaging teaching framework developed by Pie Corbett, supported by Julia Strong. It is powerful because it is based on the principles of how children learn. It enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally, before reading and analysing it, and then writing their own version. If you would like any further information about Talk for Writing, please follow the link below.
